It has been two years that I took the helm as President of Netball Ontario and there are so many good things to report. 2009 continued to have changes in our Board due to various reasons but those positions were assumed by competent individuals and that allowed for smooth transitions. There is growth in many areas of our association – summer league, winter league, membership, teams, clubs and more people trying out for the Ontario teams in the Under 18 and Under 23 categories. It is also very refreshing and encouraging to see so many young talented netballers coming into the sport.
Netball Ontario should be honoured that many skilled individuals continue to come and stay as volunteers in the interest of netball to help build a strong association and to steer us forward in fulfilling our main objectives – to promote and grow the sport province-wide. As always, we continue to need more “committed” volunteers to help in various areas for the efficient running of the organization. This is essential to ensure that our volunteers do not get tired and burned out due to carrying too large a responsibility. I am asking those of you that are reliable, have valuable skills, can work with a team and be reasonable and respectful of others to run for some of the available positions, or serve on a committee.
I would like to acknowledge the contributions and teamwork of the Board and our many volunteers whose hard work and countless unpaid hours are invaluable to our success and will like to say thank you for a job well done. I will like to single out two individuals due to the fact that they were carrying a heavy work load, their term is up and they will not be running for a position. Felicity Leader, Coaching Director, has spent numerous hours on coaching and as the program-coordinator for the four schools with the Express and Play program. Narmatha Thavarsalingam, Tournament Director, has spent countless hours ensuring that our tournaments run efficiently at the different venues. Great job! Netball Ontario will miss you.
