Theory For this level, assessment shall be a written test based on the rule book, and passed at eighty (80%). If a candidate passes his/her theory and the practical is not completed for this level, then he/she shall be required to resit the theory, but only if there is a rule change by the IFNA during that period. However that candidate will be required to attend rules clinics in order to maintain his/her pass mark in the theory.
Prerequisites for Intermediate Level
Practical Firstly, candidates will need to be successful in the Intermediate level theory. After candidates have gained suitable umpiring practice at the club level for consideration to be tested, they may then apply to the Director of Umpiring or through their club, who then will contact the Director of Umpiring/Committee member. A candidate shall umpire a minimum of five (5) division two (2) games at the league level, under the “watchful eye” of a member of the Umpiring Committee. If recommended, the candidate shall be tested on his/her next game umpired.
In certain special circumstances a candidate may be recommended to be tested at a game sanctioned by the Director of Umpiring, other than those mentioned above. The Director of Umpiring/Committee member can be emailed if candidates want further details of how to apply to take these tests or consult their club who in turn will contact the Director of Umpiring /Committee member.
Practical Tests for Intermediate Level Certification
Candidates will be required to umpire a league division two (2) match, at IFNA’s regulated time period or as otherwise determined by the Director of Umpiring/Testers involved. The practical assessment shall be done by two (2) testers. Candidates will be expected to show their ability in the application of the rule at an intermediate stage for controlling the game by:
- Penalizing correctly obvious infringements of the rules.
- Correct use of voice, whistle and terminology.
- Positioning correctly.
- Their ability to show the correct Centre Pass.
- Appearance and pre-preparation of court and equipment.
- Ability to ensure all "before match preparation" are done.
The pass mark for the Practical shall be 80%. Candidates are given two chances to pass the practical, after passing the theory. If the candidate is unsuccessful on both attempts, the theory shall be re-sit.
