Nationals Update May 23

A special congratulations to all the Ontario players and officials who represented us so very well in Burnaby, British Columbia in the National Championships.

Our Under 18 team are the new National Champions and are indeed the golden girls.  They played extremely well in an exciting finish against Alberta with a score of Ontario 52 and Alberta 44.

Our Open team had a longer path to the Championship game.  As they won one of two games in the preliminary rounds, there was a play-off against Quebec to determine which team will proceed to the final.  They won that right by beating Quebec with a score of Ontario 57 and Quebec 25.  In the final round, the competitive level was very intense and at a higher level than all the previous games.  One of our shooters, Sherri-Don Nickie was unable to play due to injury. Tiffanie Wolfe and Chantell Walker played very well despite their injury.  That said, we fell short by 5 points and British Columbia won the Open category by a score of 39 to 34.  Ontario took the Silver in the Open Women Category.

Our Under 23 continued to struggle and lost to Alberta by a score of 30 to 26.  In the play-off for 3rd and 4th position, they finally started playing up to their capabilities and won convincingly against Quebec by a score of 52 to 39.  Our Under 23 team took the bronze.

We are already looking forward to next year and as such we will be starting our fundraisng activities to make sure that we have the best players representing Ontario in all categories in the National Championships in May 2011 in Montreal, Quebec.
